Raise the Tide - Episode 12

Nick Shepherd comes to the topic of human capital standards from a background of finance and C-level roles. With over 40 years of affiliation with business standards, he's come to the conclusion that exceptional execution is rooted in an above-average organizational culture that empowers innovation.

Nick explains that as innovation becomes more salient to an organization's long-term survival, the ability of an organization to systematize and standardize its interactions that create knowledge will be the way to leverage future value.

Tying in the ISO 30414 standard, Nick discusses how metrics are the foundation for stakeholders to understand an organization’s culture and offers a means to calibrate any organization's gap between vision and purpose.

Organizational culture drives people to contribute more to the organization's mission. Without the positive feedback loop between consistent and valid measures of performance, leadership can become arbitrary and even regressive.
